Sixteen-year-old Bryce Vincent Gowryluk set out for a challenging hike near Grouse and Crown mountains in British Columbia. During the trek, he became stranded on a steep cliff and was airlifted to safety by North Shore Rescue volunteers. Initial reports said Claude’s directions led him toward dangerous terrain. Gowryluk later disputed that account, saying he mainly used the chatbot for a packing list and terrain research, consulted other mapping tools, and made the wrong turn himself. The incident highlights the risks of relying on AI for backcountry navigation.
