Israeli officials said the individuals targeted were part of the Quds Force’s “Lebanon Corps,” a branch of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard unit responsible for coordinating activities beyond Iran’s borders. According to the Israeli military, the commanders were involved in planning attacks against Israel while working closely with the IRGC leadership in Tehran.

The hotel that was struck had also been sheltering civilians displaced by ongoing fighting in southern Lebanon and parts of Beirut’s southern suburbs. Witnesses described guests leaving the building in the aftermath, many carrying belongings and moving away from the area amid fears of further strikes.

For Beirut, a city that has repeatedly found itself near the front lines of regional rivalries, the strike marked another moment when distant strategic calculations arrived directly at its doorstep. The Raouche district had largely remained outside the main areas targeted during previous rounds of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

The wider confrontation between Israel and Iran has intensified in recent days, spreading beyond traditional battle zones. Israel has carried out strikes against Iranian-linked figures and infrastructure across Lebanon, while Iranian-backed groups have launched rockets and drones toward Israeli territory.
