Early reports suggest the feature may include data caps, around 50GB per month, and may initially be available only in select countries.

Access, too, may be gradual, with rollout beginning in newer versions of Firefox and expanding over time.

Still, the broader significance lies not just in the feature itself, but in its placement.

By embedding a VPN directly into the browser, Mozilla is aligning with a growing trend: reducing reliance on external add-ons—some of which have historically raised security concerns. Incidents involving malicious browser extensions, including those posing as free VPN tools, have highlighted the risks of fragmented protection.

In this context, a built-in solution offers a different model—one where privacy is treated as a default, rather than an option.

Firefox’s approach suggests that the browser itself may become a central hub for these protections—quietly working in the background, without requiring constant attention from the user.

Yet, as with many evolving features, its final form remains a work in progress.

Mozilla has not finalized all details regarding availability and limitations of the built-in VPN. Further updates are expected as the feature rolls out across regions and user groups.
