SINGAPORE — A 79-year-old female pedestrian was rushed to the hospital Sunday morning after a hit-and-run accident at the junction of Jalan Bukit Merah and Kim Tian Road.

The driver who fled the scene, a 58-year-old man, has since been located and is currently assisting law enforcement with ongoing investigations.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) and the Singapore Police Force confirmed they received emergency calls regarding a traffic accident along Jalan Bukit Merah at approximately 5:05 AM on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Dash cam footage of the incident, which later circulated widely on the local community page "SG Road Vigilante" on Facebook, captured the moment a white sedan made a right turn immediately after the traffic lights turned green. Simultaneously, the elderly woman was attempting to cross the intersection.

The vehicle struck the pedestrian, throwing her onto the concrete road divider. Rather than stopping to render aid or check on the casualty, the white car accelerated and fled the scene.

Moments after the collision, a trailing motorist stopped his vehicle next to the injured woman to assist. In the audio captured from the dash cam footage, the witness can be heard asking the elderly victim if she was alright and offering to call an ambulance.

Despite her injuries, the conscious woman repeatedly urged the driver to take down the license plate number of the vehicle that had hit her before expressing her gratitude.

Emergency responders from the SCDF arrived shortly after and conveyed the victim to the nearby Singapore General Hospital. Authorities confirmed that she remained conscious throughout the evacuation.

While early dash cam analysis suggests that the pedestrian traffic light may have been red at the exact moment of the crossing, the driver's failure to stop at the scene of an injury accident constitutes a serious offense under Singapore’s Road Traffic Act.

The 58-year-old driver faces potential charges relating to dangerous driving and failing to render assistance after an accident. Police investigations into the exact sequencing of the traffic lights and the driver's conduct are still active.
