2. Between Singapore Capital and Italian Enterprise, Temasek Takes a Larger Step Into Italy’s Mid-Market Economy

The financial connection between Singapore and Italy has taken another step forward with a new investment involving Temasek and Milan-based investment group FSI. The transaction brings together Singaporean institutional capital and an Italian platform focused largely on mid-sized companies.

Temasek acquired a 9% minority stake in FSI’s management company and also committed additional capital to future FSI investment vehicles, the companies said on September 28, 2026. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

FSI manages approximately €5 billion and focuses primarily on Italian mid-sized businesses. For Temasek, the transaction expands an existing relationship rather than creating a connection from the beginning. The Singaporean investor had previously participated in FSI funds.

The partnership also comes as Temasek continues to increase its presence across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The investment firm has set a target of investing between €14 billion and €17 billion in those regions by 2029, and it had invested about €13 billion during the two financial years ending March 31, 2026.

Italy has already been part of that international portfolio for more than a decade. Temasek has interests in companies including luxury groups Ermenegildo Zegna, Golden Goose and Moncler, giving the Singaporean investor exposure to several recognizable Italian-linked businesses.

The new relationship with FSI places greater attention on another part of the Italian economy: mid-sized companies. These businesses often occupy an important position between small family enterprises and large multinational corporations, with opportunities for expansion but also a need for long-term capital.

FSI has also launched a Scale-up Capital Solutions fund in 2026 focused on high-growth Italian small and medium-sized enterprises. Temasek is an investor in that fund as well, according to FSI and other reports.

The sectors involved extend beyond traditional finance. FSI has identified areas including life sciences, agri-food, robotics, defence and cybersecurity among the areas relevant to its newer investment activities. That gives the partnership a connection to industries where technology and industrial development are increasingly intertwined.

For Temasek, taking a minority stake in FSI’s management company creates another way to participate in the Italian market. Instead of simply investing in individual companies, the arrangement provides a closer relationship with an investment platform that already operates within the country.

For FSI, additional institutional capital can provide another source of support for future funds and companies seeking expansion. The precise financial impact will depend on investments made through those vehicles, which have yet to unfold.

The transaction therefore represents a relatively quiet movement of capital across borders, but its significance lies in what may follow. Singapore’s global investment network is becoming more closely connected with Italian mid-market companies, while FSI gains another institutional partner for future investment cycles.
