16 Injured as Sand Truck Overturns on Busy Ortigas Avenue Extension in Taytay

TAYTAY, RIZAL — At least 16 people sustained injuries after a heavy dump truck loaded with sand tipped over along the busy stretch of Ortigas Avenue Extension in Barangay Dolores, Taytay, Rizal, causing immediate road obstruction and severe traffic congestion in the area.

According to initial reports from local traffic authorities and first responders, the truck lost balance while traversing the highway, causing it to overturn on its side. The impact spilled tons of sand across multiple lanes, damaging nearby vehicles and injuring several individuals who were passing through the busy corridor during peak transit hours.

Emergency rescue teams from the local government and emergency services immediately responded to the scene to provide medical assistance.

A total of 16 individuals were treated for various injuries ranging from minor cuts and bruises to body trauma. Victims were given initial first aid at the site before being transported to nearby hospitals and medical centers for further treatment and evaluation.

Municipal disaster response teams and medical personnel arrived quickly at the scene to assist the victims and clear the area. All injured parties were subsequently transported to local healthcare facilities to receive proper medical attention.

The overturned vehicle and spilled load created massive tailbacks along Ortigas Avenue Extension, a major thoroughfare connecting Rizal province to Metro Manila.

Heavy equipment and clearing crews were deployed to scoop up the spilled sand and tow the damaged truck away. Traffic enforcers managed the flow of vehicles, setting up alternative route advisories for commuters and motorists while operations were ongoing.

Local authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash, including potential mechanical failure, overloading, or driver error.

In light of the incident, local officials reiterated their call for stricter safety inspections and load limits for heavy cargo vehicles traveling through major municipal corridors. They assured the public that additional traffic advisories will be issued as clearing operations wrap up, while investigators continue to review CCTV footage and driver statements to establish accountability.
