West Bank Bloodshed: 4 Palestinians and 1 Israeli Killed in Deadly Shooting Escalation

NABLUS, West Bank — A severe outbreak of gunfire in the northern West Bank has left four Palestinians and one Israeli dead, marking the deadliest single confrontation in the occupied territory this year. The lethal exchange, which occurred on Friday, July 24, 2026 near the Palestinian village of Tell (also spelled Tal) southwest of Nablus, has left several others wounded and sparked fears of a sharp escalation in regional violence.

As emergency medical teams flooded the volatile scene, conflicting narratives quickly emerged from both sides regarding how the fatal confrontation began.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the incident began when a group of Israeli civilians hiking near the outpost settlement of Havat Gilad, west of Nablus, was confronted and attacked by local Palestinians. The military stated that a settlement security coordinator rushed to the scene to assist the hikers. The IDF alleges that Palestinian attackers then disarmed the security officer, seized his firearm, and opened fire on the hikers, killing an Israeli man in his 30s.

Conversely, local Palestinian sources and residents reported a vastly different sequence of events. They asserted that the violence erupted when a group of armed Israeli settlers descended upon the village of Tell, launching a raid that targeted local family homes and opening fire directly onto residents.

The Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah confirmed that four Palestinian men—reported by local sources to be members of the same family—were shot and killed by Israeli forces during the ensuing chaos. Their bodies were subsequently transferred to the Rafidia Governmental Hospital in Nablus.

Amid highly volatile conditions, emergency responders worked quickly to treat and evacuate the casualties. The medical breakdown confirmed that four Palestinians were killed, while the Palestine Red Crescent Society evacuated four additional wounded Palestinians to Rafidia Hospital, where three remain in critical condition. On the Israeli side, one hiker was killed at the scene, and Magen David Adom, Israel's national rescue service, reported that two other injured Israelis were stabilized and airlifted out of the West Bank for urgent trauma care.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Israeli military deployed reinforcements to the area to separate the groups and secure the perimeter.

The IDF announced it has placed a "temporary cordon" around the city of Nablus and the adjacent village of Tell, heavily restricting movement in and out of the sector as security forces conduct searches and investigate the precise timeline of the attack. With tensions already deeply inflamed across the West Bank, local community leaders express severe concern that this high-casualty event will trigger an immediate cycle of retaliatory attacks between settler groups and Palestinian residents.
