Trapped in the Flames: 5 Rushed to Hospital, 3 Unconscious, After Fiery Race Course Road Flat Blaze

SINGAPORE — A horrific morning blaze broke out in a residential apartment along Race Course Road on Monday, August 3, 2026 leaving five people hospitalized, including three who were found unconscious inside the smoke-filled unit.

Emergency services received frantic calls for assistance early Monday morning after thick, black smoke began billowing from a second-story flat. Bystanders and neighbors reported hearing desperate cries for help from behind locked doors as flames rapidly engulfed the interior of the home.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes, forcing their way into the burning unit through dense smoke and intense heat to initiate search-and-rescue operations.

Rescue teams successfully pulled five individuals out of the burning apartment. Paramedics immediately initiated life-saving measures on the sidewalk before rushing all five victims to nearby hospitals.

Three occupants were found unconscious inside the flat, suffering from severe smoke inhalation and burn injuries, while two other residents managed to escape the primary flames with assistance after sustaining moderate burns and respiratory distress. As a precaution during the operation, police and civil defense officers evacuated approximately 30 residents from surrounding units and neighboring floors to ensure their safety.

"The smoke was coming out so fast you couldn't see into the corridor," said a neighbor from the floor above. "We just heard sirens and rescuers shouting as they carried people out."

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze using water jets, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent apartments. Preliminary reports indicate the fire originated in the living room area, though the exact cause—whether electrical or domestic—remains under investigation.

Authorities have temporarily cordoned off the affected block as forensic teams and fire investigators inspect the structural damage and determine what sparked the inferno.

As the community recovers from the shock of the incident, local community organizations and neighborhood leaders have stepped in to offer temporary housing and immediate aid to those displaced by the evacuation. Safety officials are taking this opportunity to urge residents across the area to review their home fire safety protocols, emphasizing the critical importance of keeping emergency exits clear and maintaining operational smoke detectors to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
