SYDNEY, AU — A heartbreaking tragedy has struck Sydney’s southwest after two young children lost their lives when a vehicle struck them on a busy thoroughfare on Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2026. The horrific incident, which has left the local community in deep shock, unfolded at approximately 3:15 p.m. at the busy intersection of Joseph Street (Cumberland Highway) and Gilbert Street in Cabramatta.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following frantic reports that a car had mounted the roadside area. Officers from the Fairfield City Police Area Command arrived to discover a devastating scene: two young children, both under the age of five, had been struck by a vehicle while seated in a pram.

Reports indicate the victims were aged just one and five years old.

NSW Ambulance paramedics desperately treated the toddlers on-site, attempting to stabilize them before they were rushed under emergency police escort to The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
