LABRADOR, Pangasinan — A devastating road accident in a mountainous area of Labrador, Pangasinan, has left up to six people dead and multiple others injured after a mini dump truck carrying solar farm workers suffered mechanical failure and careened into a deep ravine on Tuesday evening, June 16, 2026.
The catastrophic crash triggered a rapid deployment of local emergency responders, police, and medical teams to the remote mountain trail in Barangay Bolo.
According to reports from Labrador Police Chief Captain John Ramos, the tragedy unfolded shortly after 6:00 p.m. as the mini dump truck was descending a sharp curve along the mountain road. The truck was transporting approximately 25 employees of the Hunan Construction Engineering Group, who were heading home after a shift at a nearby solar farm under construction.
Initial investigations reveal that sudden brake failure caused the driver to lose complete control of the heavy vehicle. As the mini dump truck rapidly gained momentum down the trail, it sideswiped an oncoming pickup truck belonging to China Communication Services Philippines Corporation, which was carrying 12 passengers.
The impact forced the pickup truck to skid onto the road shoulder. While its passengers mostly escaped unharmed, the uncontainable mini dump truck continued forward, veering off the edge of the mountain trail and plunging directly into the ravine.
The violent plunge resulted in immediate casualties among the solar farm workers packed into the back of the dump truck. Local authorities confirmed that up to six passengers, ranging in age from 25 to 47 and residing in Barangay Bolo, Labrador, and Barangay Magtaking, Bugallon, were killed in the crash. Additionally, between 12 and 20 other passengers—including the dump truck driver and one occupant from the sideswiped pickup truck—sustained various traumatic injuries and were rushed by emergency services to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.
The driver and remaining passengers of the pickup truck were taken to a medical facility for routine examinations following the shock of the impact.
Local police and forensic units have secured the scene in Barangay Bolo, and retrieval operations are underway to pull the wreckage of the mini dump truck from the ravine. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact mechanical state of the vehicle to determine if negligence or a lack of proper maintenance contributed to the deadly brake failure.
