Skerries 100 Abandoned: Racing Event Halted Following Fatal Crash on Sunday Morning in Dublin

Skerries, Ireland—The Skerries 100 road races in County Dublin were abandoned on Sunday following a fatal crash. The incident occurred during the Junior Support race, which served as part of the event's 80th-anniversary schedule.

Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club organizers confirmed the death of a competitor shortly after the accident. Emergency personnel attempted medical intervention on the course, but the rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Race officials issued a brief statement announcing the immediate cessation of all remaining track activity. Competitors were informed that the event would not continue while initial site assessments were carried out by authorities.

This year marked the first time the Skerries 100 had been held in four years. Long-standing insurance challenges had previously blocked road racing events across the Republic of Ireland since 2022.

Only one race was completed before the fatal incident took place. Michael Dunlop had earlier secured victory in the Open Superbike race before the weekend's program was brought to a sudden halt.

Gardaí and track marshals secured the affected section of the circuit. The organizers have stated that further information will be released once the next of kin have been fully informed of the tragedy.

The loss represents another blow to the Irish road racing community. The sport has dealt with a series of high-profile fatalities at similar events in recent years.

The scene remains under control as organizers focus on supporting the family of the deceased. No details regarding the specific cause of the crash have been made public at this time.
