RAF Concludes Enhanced Air Policing Mission in Romania

Royal Air Force personnel from 121 Expeditionary Air Wing formally handed over responsibility for NATO’s enhanced Air Policing mission in Romania to the Spanish Air and Space Force at 86th Air Base Borcea on 31 July 2026. The handover marked the successful conclusion of the UK’s contribution to Operation Biloxi 2026. Over four months, RAF Typhoon FGR4 aircraft from 3 (Fighter) Squadron carried out NATO Air Policing duties, including Quick Reaction Alert scrambles and readiness at very high levels. The deployment involved close cooperation with Romanian and NATO partners.
