Central Java, Indonesia— Emergency services deployed search teams along the banks of a major river in Central Java on Tuesday after a local resident disappeared while swimming. Heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours caused water levels to rise rapidly. The current remains dangerously fast.

Witnesses saw the individual enter the water near a bridge abutment around noon. They vanished from sight within seconds. Bystanders attempted to assist but the turbulence prevented any direct rescue.

Local police and search and rescue volunteers arrived with rubber boats by mid-afternoon. They are utilizing drone technology to scan the river surface from above. Murky water and submerged branches are complicating the visibility for divers.
