There is a quiet rhythm beneath the artificial intelligence boom: servers turning, cooling systems running and electricity moving continuously through enormous facilities. The public sees the answers produced by AI, but companies such as CoreWeave operate much closer to the machinery that makes those answers possible.
On Tuesday, CoreWeave raised its 2026 capital spending forecast to between $35 billion and $39 billion, up from its previous estimate of $31 billion to $35 billion. The change came after the AI-focused cloud provider reported stronger-than-expected second-quarter results.
The company reported second-quarter revenue of $2.58 billion, exceeding analysts' expectations. Its results reflected continued demand from businesses seeking large amounts of computing capacity for artificial intelligence workloads.
CoreWeave's backlog also grew to $104.2 billion at the end of the quarter, compared with $99.4 billion in the first quarter. More than $25 billion in new customer commitments were added during the quarter, underscoring the scale of demand facing the company.
The customer base includes major technology companies such as Meta and Anthropic, along with other businesses using large-scale computing resources. These relationships show how cloud infrastructure has become an increasingly important layer of the AI economy.
Capital spending is consequently moving at an extraordinary pace. CoreWeave spent $9.4 billion during the second quarter, up from $6.8 billion previously, as it continued building infrastructure capable of supporting AI workloads.
The numbers reflect a market in which demand for computing capacity is growing faster than many traditional infrastructure cycles. AI systems require specialized processors, high-density data centers and substantial electricity, creating an unusually capital-intensive technology expansion.
CoreWeave also raised its full-year revenue and adjusted operating profit forecasts following the quarter. The company's improving outlook suggests that customers are continuing to commit significant resources to AI computing rather than treating the technology as a short-term experiment.
Yet the physical nature of the expansion remains important. Every new AI service requires machines somewhere to process information. Behind the cloud is therefore a growing network of buildings, power connections and cooling systems that must expand alongside the software.
CoreWeave's latest figures offer a glimpse into that hidden infrastructure race. With capital spending now forecast at up to $39 billion for 2026 and a backlog exceeding $100 billion, the company is moving deeper into a technology market where demand for computing capacity continues to shape investment decisions.
