Tragedy on Lavender Street: 58-Year-Old Woman Killed in Horrific Two-Car Crash

SINGAPORE — A quiet Sunday afternoon turned into a scene of devastating chaos when a horrific two-car collision at a major intersection in Kallang claimed the life of a 58-year-old female pedestrian. A 31-year-old male driver has since been arrested in connection with the fatal accident.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the bustling junction of Lavender Street and Kallang Bahru, heading toward Balestier Road.

Witness accounts and harrowing dash cam footage circulating on motoring social media groups captured the terrifying sequence of events. According to the footage, a car violently struck the 58-year-old woman as she was crossing, throwing her into the air from the force of the impact.

Without stopping, the vehicle then careened further down the road, smashing into a second car and causing it to swerve violently across the lanes.

When the dust settled, a dark-colored Kia SUV was left stationary just past the yellow box junction, while a Honda Shuttle came to a halt further down the street near the Tyrwhitt Road intersection. A man in his 30s, believed to be connected to one of the vehicles, was seen sitting on the road divider in shock, though he did not appear visibly injured.

Passers-by immediately rushed to the intersection to assist. Images from the scene showed a crowd gathered around the victim, with one civilian frantically performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in a desperate bid to save her life before first responders arrived. Blood was visible on the asphalt near the junction.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the police arrived shortly after. Paramedics found the woman unconscious with catastrophic injuries. She was rushed by ambulance to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where medical staff fought to stabilize her. Tragically, she succumbed to her severe injuries and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

The Singapore Police Force confirmed they have arrested the 31-year-old male driver under the Road Traffic Act for dangerous driving causing death.

According to a police statement, authorities were alerted to a serious accident involving two cars and a pedestrian at the junction of Kallang Bahru and Lavender Street on May 17 at approximately 12:30 p.m. A 58-year-old female pedestrian was rushed to the hospital while unconscious, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries and died. A 31-year-old male car driver has since been arrested, and official investigations into the crash are currently ongoing.

The junction was partially cordoned off for several hours on Sunday afternoon as traffic police and forensic investigators mapped the scene, analyzed the vehicle damage, and gathered evidence. Authorities are urging anyone with additional dashcam footage or information regarding the crash to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
