CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — A late-night motorcycle ride turned fatal for a local law enforcer after a tragic accident along the highway of Barangay Lumbia on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Authorities confirmed that an active police officer assigned to the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) lost his life after his motorcycle violently crashed into a concrete center island near the entrance of the Gran Europa subdivision.

According to initial traffic investigation reports, the officer was traveling along the Lumbia highway late Monday evening when he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle.

The vehicle slammed heavily into the concrete barrier dividing the road. The sheer force of the impact threw the officer several meters away from his motorcycle, causing critical injuries.

Emergency responders and rescue personnel were rushed to the scene immediately after witnesses alerted local authorities. The officer was given first-aid medical attention before being quickly transported to the nearest hospital. However, attending physicians declared him dead on arrival due to severe head and body trauma.

Traffic investigators are currently looking into the exact cause of the crash by examining several initial angles. Among the possibilities being considered is a potential mechanical failure of the motorcycle or poor visibility caused by a lack of sufficient lighting along certain stretches of the highway.
