FRIGILIANA, SPAIN — A chaotic scene unfolded in the picturesque hills of Málaga on Monday evening, June 22, 2026 when an out-of-control vehicle mounted the pavement and plowed directly into a packed restaurant terrace, leaving seven people injured.

The incident transformed a peaceful summer night into an area of panic as diners scrambled to escape the path of the oncoming car.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Bar Virtudes, a highly popular streetside hotspot located near the historic old town of Frigiliana, in Málaga’s Axarquía region.

According to security footage, the white Peugeot was cruising down Calle San Sebastián before suddenly veering off-track without braking. The vehicle then mounted the curb and smashed straight through the outdoor seating area where dozens of customers were enjoying dinner, striking a 14-year-old boy first, who ended up on the car's bonnet for several meters as the vehicle swept through tables and chairs.

Investigations indicate that the driver, a 47-year-old woman, suffered a sudden medical emergency—suspected to be an epileptic seizure—causing her to temporarily lose total control behind the wheel. Local emergency services, including ambulances, the Local Police, and the Guardia Civil, rushed to the scene immediately after receiving dozens of frantic calls from witnesses.

A total of seven victims were confirmed injured, including two children aged 5 and 14, three women aged 45, 48, and 70 (initially reported as 79), and two men aged 44 and 77.

Among the hardest hit were a Polish family vacationing on the Costa del Sol; the father sustained a fractured tibia, while the mother suffered severe bodily contusions. Their 14-year-old son suffered back trauma after being carried on the vehicle's hood, and though their 5-year-old son escaped physical injury, he required medical treatment for severe emotional shock.

The victims were distributed between the Nerja Primary Care Centre and the Axarquía Hospital for urgent treatment. The quiet tourist town of Frigiliana was left in deep shock following the crash. Because the vehicle traveled directly into the crowded dining area without decelerating, sources close to the investigation remarked that "it was a miracle no one was killed".
