Newborn “Cocaine Hippo” Guac Rescued by Fishermen From Escobar’s Hacienda Nápoles

Colombian authorities rescued a newborn hippopotamus nicknamed “cocaine hippo” Guac after fishermen found it alone on a riverbank and suffering from severe dehydration and malnutrition. The calf had been separated from its mother and hidden in bushes near Puerto Nare in Antioquia. Veterinarians treated the hippo and transferred it to a hippo sanctuary at Hacienda Nápoles, Escobar’s former estate now run as a theme park. The incident highlights the continuing challenge posed by the invasive Escobar-linked herd.
