SINGAPORE — A serious rush-hour accident involving a motorcycle and a car triggered heavy traffic gridlock near the Woodlands Checkpoint on Monday morning. The collision, which occurred during peak border-crossing hours, left a young motorcyclist injured and required immediate emergency intervention.
The incident took place at approximately 9:05 AM on July 6, 2026 along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) in the direction of the Woodlands Checkpoint. The crash happened in the immediate vicinity of the blue gantry near Exit 10B, a critical bottleneck for vehicles attempting to cross the Causeway into Malaysia.
The collision involved a Singapore-registered dark-colored sedan and a motorcycle. Following the impact, the sedan came to a halt at a sharp angle across the rightmost lane, while debris from the motorcycle was scattered across the asphalt.
Because of the position of the vehicles and the medical emergency on the road, two of the expressway's three lanes were rendered entirely impassable to traffic. Land Transport Authority (LTA) personnel quickly deployed cones through the Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (EMAS) to filter incoming vehicles away from the scene, causing a massive backlog of traffic.
At 9:30 AM, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) issued an urgent social media advisory, warning cross-border traveler to expect severe delays and plan their commutes accordingly.
"Traffic was backed up for kilometers. Everyone trying to make the morning crossing into Johor was completely stuck as emergency services worked to clear the lanes."— An affected morning commuter The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at the scene within minutes. Paramedics treated the 29-year-old male motorcyclist directly on the expressway before loading him onto an SCDF ambulance.
Authorities confirmed that the motorcyclist was conscious when he was conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for treatment.
While traffic police worked to clear the wreckage and ease the bottleneck heading toward the checkpoint, officers began gathering evidence. The SPF confirmed that a 56-year-old male car driver is currently assisting with ongoing police investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash.
