Landline payphones are being installed across temporarily occupied Crimea to maintain emergency access as regular power outages and mobile network disruptions leave cell service unreliable. The first public phones have appeared in Dzhankoi, where mobile networks are reportedly active only twice daily for four hours, with devices placed on several streets and on Theater Square in Yevpatoria. The street phones provide free access to Russia’s 112 emergency service and other responders without needing electricity or mobile coverage. Disruptions have persisted for more than 12 days.
