TEHRAN, IRAN — A major fire broke out at a massive carpet depot near Qiyam Square in central Tehran on Wednesday night, June 10, 2026, sending thick, acrid smoke billowing across the capital city and triggering a massive emergency deployment.

The incident transformed the night sky into a wall of dark smoke and flames, drawing crowds of onlookers to the historic commercial hub as emergency response teams raced to contain the sprawling disaster.

According to early briefings from local municipality emergency services, the fire originated within a large commercial garage and depot facility spanning approximately 2,000 square meters. The structure was predominantly used for the dense storage of packed carpets and textile materials, which served as heavy fuel for the emerging blaze.

Before first responders arrived, the fire caught onto the building's pitched roofing structures. Driven by high heat and flammable inventory, the flames quickly spread across the rooftops and compromised the main building envelope.

"The site of the fire is a garage of about 2,000 square meters, which is mostly a carpet warehouse, and is completely engulfed in flames," stated Jalal Maleki, spokesperson for the Tehran Fire Department. "The fire has spread to the pitched roofs and is continuing to grow."

Recognizing the high risk of the blaze spreading to the tightly packed surrounding markets and residential sectors near Qiyam Square, the Tehran Fire Department executed a large-scale, multi-station mobilization.

To provide continuous manpower, eight separate fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene. The responding forces utilized high-reach hydraulic ladders to suppress the burning rooftops from above, while heavy-volume water tankers secured a continuous supply line in the urban zone. High-capacity pumper trucks and specialized breathing apparatus support units further assisted the tactical operations.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive tactical operation, attacking the roaring perimeter from several directions simultaneously to build a defensive line and stop the inferno from advancing deeper into neighboring blocks.

Miraculously, despite the rapid spread of the fire and the massive column of smoke visible across several districts, preliminary assessments indicate that no casualties or severe injuries have been reported. Officials credit the late-night hour of the incident, which meant fewer workers were active inside the primary storage bays.

The structural integrity of the affected complex remains heavily compromised due to the intense temperatures of the burning textiles and collapsed roof panels. Teams are expected to remain on-site for several hours to completely douse deep-seated hot spots hidden beneath the layers of charred material.

A formal investigation into the origin of the blaze has been ordered by city municipal leaders. Investigators will look into the facility's electrical infrastructure, compliance with commercial safety regulations, and storage procedures to pinpoint what triggered the catastrophic accident.
