A senior UN official said Hamas obstructed humanitarian operations in Gaza, accusing armed men linked to the group of invading a food distribution point in Jabalia and disrupting World Food Programme (WFP) deliveries.
In a statement, UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov said he “strongly” condemned the incident, describing it as part of a “dangerous pattern” of intimidation, violence, and obstruction affecting humanitarian work.
The UN said the armed men forced their way into the Abu Rashid food distribution point in Jabalia on Saturday. It added that they also entered a WFP warehouse and assaulted two truck drivers delivering humanitarian supplies.
Alakbarov warned that the repeated interference and intimidation endanger aid workers and delay life-saving assistance for civilians, calling on all parties to protect humanitarian personnel and facilities and allow aid operations to proceed safely, independently, and without fear of violence.
Hamas officials rejected the accusations, while Israel and related authorities argued that aid deliveries enter Gaza but that Hamas undermines distribution.
