Greece Unveils Its First Humanoid Robot for Factory Work

On May 23, 2026, Greece showcased its commitment to advanced robotics by introducing MARK One, the country’s first humanoid robot designed for factory environments. Developed by the Greek technology firm Axl Imperial, this robot represents a significant milestone for Greece's burgeoning robotics sector and is set to debut at the Automation & Robotics Expo 2026 in Athens.

MARK One is equipped with dual robotic arms and autonomous mobility, enabling it to perform a variety of industrial tasks, including palletizing, machine feeding, quality control, and material handling. During a presentation, the robot remarked, “What makes me stand out is that I combine autonomous movement with the ability to execute tasks with my two arms.” This capability enhances its functionality within dynamic workspaces, allowing for real-time collaboration with human staff.

According to Konstantinos Gouliaris, CEO of Axl Imperial, MARK One is designed as an “industrial worker,” capable of managing repetitive, physically demanding, or hazardous tasks, making it suitable for the evolving landscape of modern manufacturing. Unique to this design is the robot's ability to move independently rather than being confined to a fixed position, adapting as needed to different operational contexts.

Beyond its physical capabilities, MARK One integrates advanced features such as articulated fingers, cameras, and voice interaction technology, reflecting a paradigm shift toward “physical AI.” This blend of hardware and intelligence enables the robot to engage more naturally with its human counterparts.

Built primarily with locally sourced components, MARK One is poised to begin its operational role at KAFEA TERRA, one of Greece's largest coffee producers, this coming summer. Engineers are already working on future enhancements, including improved voice-command abilities and limited decision-making functions, gradually transitioning the robot from being a tool to a collaborative partner on the factory floor.

As global interest and investment in humanoid robotics continue to accelerate, Greece's entry into this sector signifies its ambition to remain competitive in the rapidly advancing field of automation and AI-driven technology.
