Germany records new all-time temperature high as Europe heatwave moves east

Germany set a new all-time heat record for a second day in a row, with temperatures reaching 41.5C in Saxony-Anhalt, according to provisional figures from the country’s meteorological service. The new mark surpassed the previous record of 41.3C reached just a day earlier near Saarbrücken close to the French border.

As the heatwave moved north and east, other countries also reported record readings. The Czech Republic logged its highest-ever temperature at 40.8C north of Prague, while Denmark recorded a provisional 37C, beating its earlier all-time high. The broader event has been linked to health impacts, with the World Meteorological Organization warning of major risks to people and ecosystems.
