A flight instructor in Argentina allegedly jumped out of an airplane midair and died, forcing a student pilot to bring the aircraft down safely, investigators said.
According to ABC News, the incident occurred during a training flight at the Flying Parrot Cordoba school. The student, 22, had taken off from Toledo with her instructor, 42-year-old Leandro Bertazzo, when investigators say he jumped out after telling her she knew what to do. The student later landed a Cessna 150 on her own, despite having a license but not enough flight hours, investigators said.
Investigators said the instructor’s body was recovered later that day, and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office No. 2 of Córdoba said it would continue its investigation. The school said the instructor had been working with the organization since 2022.
