A new UN report finds major progress since 2015: nearly one billion people gained access to safely managed drinking water, and 1.2 billion gained safely managed sanitation. It also reports that electricity now reaches 92% of the world’s population. While these gains show what scaled investment and policies can achieve, the report warns progress is uneven and insufficient to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. It calls for faster action, stronger financing, and better targeting to close remaining gaps.
