GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA — A quiet community on the Gold Coast has been shattered by a horrific midnight house fire that has left one man dead and two others fighting for their lives in what police are treating as a targeted arson and domestic violence incident.

Emergency services rushed to Sickle Avenue on Hope Island at approximately 11:45 PM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 following frantic reports of a residential property engulfed in massive flames. Neighbors reported seeing a ferocious blaze rip through the structure, requiring 15 firefighters to battle the inferno, which eventually triggered a partial collapse of the building.

Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics immediately treated three individuals outside the home. Two men, aged 44 and 84, sustained extensive, life-threatening burn injuries. They were stabilized at the scene before being rushed under emergency escort to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

A 59-year-old woman was also taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, suffering from back, hip, and leg injuries sustained during the chaos. Another 38-year-old male occupant managed to escape the burning building entirely unharmed. Once the intense flames were brought under control, emergency crews conducting a secondary search made a grim discovery, locating the body of a 38-year-old man inside the gutted remains of the property.

Queensland Police have officially declared the heavily damaged property an active crime scene. Initial investigations strongly indicate that the fire was purposefully lit, and detectives are currently treating the tragedy as a domestic violence homicide.

Authorities believe that the deceased 38-year-old man found inside the home was the alleged arsonist responsible for igniting the fatal blaze.
