BAUCHI STATE, NIGERIA — A devastating surge of communal violence has claimed seven lives and left dozens of families homeless following fierce clashes between local farmers and suspected herders across the Lanzai and Dosho communities in the Darazo Local Government Area.

The deep-rooted tensions over agricultural land and resource management boiled over into a deadly cycle of attacks and immediate reprisals, reducing a local settlement to a landscape of scorched ruins. According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the tragedy ignited early in Friday morning, June 5, 2026 at around 9:00 AM on the outskirts of the Lanzai community.

A group of local farmers was working on their land, applying local fertilizers to their seasonal crops, when they were suddenly ambushed by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The initial, unprovoked assault quickly escalated into a violent physical confrontation.

As news of the attack rippled back through Lanzai, a wave of outrage swept through the local youth population. In a rapid and volatile reprisal, an angry mob of mobilized youths marched toward Dosho Village, a nearby Fulani pastoral settlement.
