GLENDALE, Calif. — Eight people were hospitalized Friday after an SUV crashed directly into an early childhood education building on the campus of Temple Sinai of Glendale, prompting a massive emergency response and shaking the local community.
The incident occurred during drop-off hours on Friday, August 7, 2026 a time when parents, staff, and young children were actively arriving at the facility.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports from the Glendale Police Department, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly across the driveway before smashing through the entrance structure of the school. The sudden impact shattered glass, tore through interior walls, and caused widespread panic inside the building.
First responders, including multiple units from the Glendale Fire Department and paramedics, arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving frantic 911 calls.
"Our primary focus upon arrival was extricating individuals pinned under debris, administering triage, and ensuring the structural integrity of the damaged building," stated a spokesperson for emergency services.
Emergency medical crews evaluated numerous individuals at the scene. Ultimately, eight victims—including both adults and children—were transported by ambulance to nearby medical centers and trauma units.
Hospital officials confirmed that victims suffered a range of injuries, from severe fractures and blunt force trauma to minor cuts and bruises. Medical teams are working around the clock to treat those affected.
Counselors and crisis support teams were quickly dispatched to the temple property to assist traumatized children, parents, and teachers who witnessed the horrific event.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was taken into custody by Glendale Police for questioning. Investigators are currently assessing whether the crash was caused by a mechanical failure, a sudden medical emergency, or driver error.
Specialized traffic collision investigators and forensic experts closed off surrounding streets to examine skid marks, vehicle telemetry, and security footage from Temple Sinai's security network.
Police officials noted that there is no initial evidence suggesting the crash was an intentional or hate-motivated act, though all potential angles remain under thorough review as the investigation proceeds.
