Thousands of people in New Zealand were without power on June 27, a day after a low-pressure system moved across the country and brought flooding and landslides.
The utility Powerco reported more than 3,000 outages in central regions, including the capital Wellington, after 24 hours of very wet and windy weather.
Emergency authorities warned residents to watch for debris on roads, areas of surface flooding, and a continued risk of landslides in and around Wellington.
The storms also disrupted travel: flights into and out of Wellington were cancelled on June 26.
Meanwhile, national weather forecasters said the weather system was moving out, but residents were told to remain alert for lingering hazards as recovery efforts continued.
