Soldier Charged Over Polymarket Trades Seeks Dismissal

Gannon Van Dyke, a U.S. special forces soldier, is seeking dismissal of charges alleging he used confidential information to place 13 Polymarket bets on the operation to remove Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Van Dyke has pleaded not guilty and argues that prosecutors are pursuing a novel theory that does not constitute a crime. Prosecutors maintain the case is a conventional insider-trading and fraud matter, saying he used information he was obligated to keep secret for personal profit. His trial is scheduled for December.
