Kao USA is recalling certain lots of Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo sold at retailers and in salons nationwide after bacteria was found in the product, the FDA reported.
The recall was prompted by detection of Pluralibacter gergoviae. The FDA said the bacteria poses little medical risk to healthy people, but people with certain health conditions—such as weakened immune systems—may be more susceptible to infection.
The recall is limited to specific production lots of the shampoo in two sizes: 8.5 ounces and 33.8 ounces. The affected bottles were manufactured between February 21, 2026 and February 26, 2026, and the lot codes affected begin with “YR” on the bottom of the bottle.
Kao USA told consumers to stop using the recalled product and asked retail and salon partners to remove affected lots from sale or use and return them for disposal. Customers can contact the Kao Professional Hair Technical Hotline or email the company to request help with replacements.
