Perth Suburbs Shocked: 16-Year-Old Boy Arrested After Mother Killed in Domestic Tragedy

PERTH, Australia — A quiet suburban street in Perth’s south-east has been shattered by an early morning domestic tragedy after a 35-year-old mother was allegedly stabbed to death by her 16-year-old son, who also severely injured his younger sister.

The teenager is currently in police custody following a desperate escape by his 12-year-old sister, who managed to flee the home to flag down help.

Emergency services were called to a home on Mills Street in the suburb of Bentley at around 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Upon entering the property, Western Australia Police discovered the body of the 35-year-old victim.

According to authorities, the woman had suffered fatal injuries consistent with stab wounds.

The alarm was raised after the woman's 12-year-old daughter, who was also stabbed during the violent domestic incident, managed to break away from the house. Bleeding from her injuries, the young girl ran toward a nearby highway where members of the public spotted her and immediately contacted emergency services. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she remains under medical care for serious injuries.

Homicide detectives and forensic teams locked down the suburban property, quickly establishing a heavy police presence on the street. The 16-year-old suspect—the victim's son and the young girl’s brother—were arrested by officers directly at the scene without further incident.

Addressing the media outside the residence, WA Police Major Crime Acting Inspector Jessica Securo confirmed that the event is being treated as a suspected family violence homicide.

"I can confirm there is no ongoing risk to the wider community," Acting Inspector Securo said. "This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved as well as the broader community. Our thoughts are with them all, particularly the 12-year-old girl who remains in hospital receiving treatment."

Neighbors in the tight-knit suburb of Bentley expressed absolute disbelief as details of the tragic event emerged. The quiet residential street remained cordoned off with police tape throughout the day as forensic investigators meticulously searched the property for evidence.

Authorities have requested that the privacy of the grieving family be respected as Major Crime division detectives continue their investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Charges against the 16-year-old are expected to be filed.
