Palantir has accepted a ruling in its dispute with the Swiss online magazine Republik and has decided not to appeal, according to a report from Swiss public broadcaster SRF.
The Zurich Commercial Court largely dismissed Palantir’s lawsuit against Republik. The court ordered Republik to correct one item, but did not grant Palantir broader relief sought in the case. Palantir said in response to enquiries that it accepts the court’s decision and will not appeal, meaning the judgement is expected to take effect once the appeal period ends.
The underlying conflict centers on reporting by Republik and an investigative collective called WAV about Palantir’s business activities and its so-called data-analysis model. Republik has previously described its work as based on documents it obtained through Switzerland’s freedom-of-information framework.
In the reporting, press-freedom advocates framed the court outcome as a positive sign for journalism, arguing that if Palantir had succeeded it could have set a precedent for press restrictions through litigation. The case has also been discussed in broader terms as a potential example of pressure on smaller media outlets by a powerful technology company.
