Lviv Under Fire: 31 Injured, Including 3 Children, After Devastating Russian Missile Attack

LVIV, UKRAINE — A powerful Russian overnight missile strike has torn through the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, injuring at least 31 people, including three children, and igniting massive blazes in densely populated residential areas. The aerial bombardment, part of a larger nationwide barrage of over 70 missiles, caught citizens asleep in their homes just before 5:00 AM on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

According to Lviv Oblast authorities, multiple cruise and ballistic missiles breached the city’s air defenses, with impacts severely damaging more than 20 residential buildings. High-rise apartments on Paton and Vyhovskyi streets bore the brunt of the shockwaves, which shattered windows, collapsed interior walls, and tore away external facades.

The explosions sparked intense fires that tore through upper-level apartments and neighboring structures. Local educational infrastructure was also heavily impacted, with municipal officials confirming significant structural damage to a local school and two nearby kindergartens.

Dozens of search-and-rescue teams, supported by local residents, rushed to the worst-hit areas to pull survivors from the smoking debris. The State Emergency Service confirmed that seven people were successfully freed from under the rubble of a partially collapsed high-rise.

Medical responders treated 31 individuals for injuries ranging from severe shrapnel wounds to smoke inhalation. Among the casualties are three young children. Although most victims were treated at the scene for minor cuts from flying glass, 15 people—including a child with blast injuries—remain hospitalized in serious condition.

"We woke up to a deafening roar and the sound of our windows imploding," said Maryna, a resident of Paton Street who helped her elderly neighbors evacuate. "The sky was entirely orange from the burning apartments. It’s a miracle more people weren't killed in their beds."

The attack on Lviv, a city located near the Polish border and historically considered a relative safe haven for displaced civilians, was part of a coordinated, massive assault targeting ten Ukrainian provinces.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the widespread strikes, noting that while mobile defense teams and combat aviation performed heroically to intercept dozens of incoming threats, a critical shortage of anti-ballistic missiles supplied by international partners left key civilian sectors vulnerable.

As emergency crews continue to clear the mountain of debris and stabilize damaged structures on Paton Street, local authorities are coordinating emergency housing, food, and psychological support for the hundreds of residents displaced by the morning's devastation.
