Luxury Estate Horror: Two Hospitalized After Knife Attack in Hong Kong

HONG KONG — A peaceful morning shattered into chaos at an upscale residential complex in Hong Kong's Southern District when a 22-year-old resident launched a violent, seemingly random knife attack. The incident left two people hospitalized and raised immediate alarm in the affluent neighborhood.

The attack unfolded at Baguio Villa, a prominent luxury housing estate located in Pok Fu Lam. According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the suspect—wearing only sweatpants and appearing bare-chested and barefoot—emerged from his unit carrying a knife around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Outside Block 43 of the quiet residential compound, the suspect suddenly charged at a male passerby. The individual managed to dodge the initial slash, narrowly escaping harm.

The assailant then turned his attention to an estate security guard who stepped in to intervene. A physical struggle ensued as other security personnel rushed to assist their colleague. During the chaotic confrontation, the suspect broke away and stabbed a foreign domestic helper in the back as she walked nearby.

Recognizing the immediate danger, additional estate guards and brave bystanders stepped in to physically subdue and restrain the attacker until law enforcement could arrive at the scene.

Police officers swiftly arrived, placing the 22-year-old under arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Emergency medical responders treated both the injured security guard and the domestic helper at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital.

During a subsequent search of the suspect's apartment in Block 47, investigators discovered an injured pet cat with a severe wound to its right ear. Authorities believe the suspect injured the animal inside his home immediately before embarking on the attack outside. The cat was turned over to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for emergency treatment.

Law enforcement authorities have launched a full investigation into the suspect's background, including possible mental health history, to determine the motive behind the sudden, unprovoked assault in what is typically considered one of the city's safest residential enclaves.
