Lebanese state media said an Israeli strike on a car in the country’s south on Monday killed four people, including three women, even as a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah remains in effect.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that a drone targeted the vehicle as the victims returned from inspecting their family home in Nabatieh al-Fawqa. The dead included a school principal, her mother, a foreign female domestic worker and a male Syrian worker.
The Israeli military said it identified “four suspects” approaching an area its forces occupy who posed a threat and carried out a “precise strike” to remove it.
The strike followed a pattern of intermittent attacks in the Nabatieh area during the ceasefire period, with both sides accusing the other of violating the truce. Hezbollah officials described Monday’s killing as an attack on civilians and also criticized elements of a framework deal announced last month.
Lebanese authorities said attacks since March 2 have killed around 4,300 people, and that the conflict has displaced more than a million people, with a large share later reported to have returned home.
