India Fuels a Worldwide Jump in Planned Coal Production

A new report says India is powering a worldwide increase in planned coal production as governments keep adding mining projects even while coal demand plateaus. Global Energy Monitor found that enough new coal-mine proposals were made last year to boost global supplies, and India accounted for much of the change. The rise was driven mainly by Jharkhand and Odisha, which expanded proposals in line with plans to raise output and meet growing electricity demand.
