Head-On Highway Collision: Passenger Bus and Truck Crash in Central Anatolia Leaves Three Passengers Dead

Konya Province, Turkey—Three passengers died Tuesday morning following a violent head-on collision between an intercity passenger coach and a heavy freight truck along a busy transit corridor in Central Anatolia. The devastating impact occurred when the bus driver drifted across the undivided center line while attempting to navigate a sweeping highway curve during heavy early morning transit.

The freight truck attempted an evasive maneuver onto the gravel shoulder, but the oncoming coach struck its front driver-side corner at high speed. The violent kinetic force crushed the front cabin of the passenger bus, trapping multiple travelers beneath twisted seats and dashboard framework. Passing motorists pulled over to assist trapped occupants before emergency police and gendarmerie squads arrived.

Dozens of ambulances from neighboring districts deployed to the scene, establishing a triage perimeter on the asphalt road. Paramedics treated over a dozen injured passengers for bone fractures and trauma before transferring them to regional hospitals. Hospital authorities confirmed that three passengers succumbed to severe impact injuries inside the emergency ward.

"Gendarmerie traffic accident investigators are analyzing tachograph records and skid mark lengths to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the center-line breach," stated provincial gendarmerie commander Colonel Ahmet Yilmaz during an on-site briefing. Heavy recovery wreckers removed the disabled vehicles from the highway lanes, allowing normal transit to resume by mid-afternoon. Transportation ministries reiterated calls for expanding divided barrier systems across remaining regional highways.
