Firestorm in Quiapo: Heavy Blaze Engulfs Commercial Building at Iconic Raon Intersection

MANILA, Philippines — A fast-moving second-alarm fire broke out at a commercial building at the bustling corner of Rizal Avenue and Gonzalo Puyat (Raon) Street in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on Tuesday afternoon, July 28, 2026. The emergency sent thick columns of dark smoke billowing over the city's premier electronics and hardware trading district.

The blaze reportedly originated on the upper floors of the building; with emergency responders receiving the initial call at approximately 12:31 p.m. Embers and heavy smoke were seen escaping from the windows as the fire quickly gained traction. Due to the rapid spread of the flames and the structure’s location in a high-density area, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) upgraded the emergency to a second alarm within minutes, calling in multiple regional fire units.

No casualties or major injuries have been reported, as building occupants and employees managed to evacuate the premises immediately upon detecting the smoke.
