Marine Le Pen can legally stand in France’s next presidential election after a Paris court ruling reduced the length of her ban from holding public office following an embezzlement conviction, according to reporting.
The court upheld her conviction and determined the ineligibility period she faces is shortened to 15 months. While that makes her eligible “in theory” to run in April 2027, the decision also requires that she serve a further year with an electronic tag, meaning she would not be fully free to campaign. Le Pen said she would not run under those conditions, leaving uncertainty over who the National Rally candidate would be if she chooses not to enter the race.
