The first incident occurred early Monday morning in the industrial town of Kariega. A minibus taxi carrying workers from KwaNobuhle attempted a U-turn directly into the path of an oncoming bus. The resulting collision caused significant damage to the taxi and claimed seven lives immediately.

The second tragedy struck later that same evening on the N10 highway, situated between Middelburg and Nxuba in the Chris Hani District. A single vehicle carrying eight occupants lost control and overturned. Five people were declared dead at the scene, including the driver of the car.

Initial reports from provincial traffic authorities suggest that the vehicle involved in the N10 crash was overloaded. Three survivors were pulled from the wreckage and transported to nearby hospitals for urgent care. A case of culpable homicide has been opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding the rollover.

They are highlighting the recurring issue of overloading and reckless driving behavior as primary contributors to these latest casualties.
