Drunk Driving Tragedy in Hyderabad: Speeding Car Rams Army Personnel, Killing Jawan

HYDERABAD, India — A morning routine turned into a devastating tragedy near Hyder Shahkot on the outskirts of Hyderabad when a high-speed sedan allegedly driven by intoxicated youths crashed directly into a group of Army personnel, killing one jawan and injuring several others.

The incident occurred during early morning hours of Monday, August 10, 2026 while a unit of soldiers was conducting routine physical training along the road shoulder.

According to police reports and witnesses, the speeding car lost control while negotiating a stretch near Hyder Shahkot. Moving at an excessive speed, the vehicle veered wildly off the main lane and ploughed straight into the formation of marching personnel.

The impact was severe enough to throw several soldiers off the road. One jawan succumbed to critical injuries on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of trauma, including fractures and lacerations.

Nearby army personnel and locals rushed to the scene immediately, securing the injured and transporting them to the military hospital for urgent medical attention.

Police units deployed nearby quickly intercepted the vehicle and apprehended the occupants before they could flee the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the car was carrying a group of young men returning from a late-night gathering.

Field breathalyzer tests conducted by responding officers indicated that the driver was operating the vehicle well above the permissible legal blood alcohol limit.

"The driver lost total control of the high-speed vehicle due to heavy intoxication," said a senior police official overseeing the investigation. "We have taken all occupants into custody and seized the vehicle for forensic evaluation."

The tragic loss of a serving soldier to reckless drunk driving has sparked widespread anger among community members and military officials. Local authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the law, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and driving under the influence.

Police confirmed that strict legal proceedings, including blood sample verification and detailed accident reconstruction, are underway to ensure that responsible face full accountability.
