Deadly Strikes Hit Ukraine as Kyiv Retaliates Against Russian E-Commerce Giant

KYIV — A brutal escalation in long-range warfare erupted overnight as Russia launched heavy missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, killing several civilians and leaving dozens injured. The fatal barrage followed a series of daring, deep-range Ukrainian drone strikes that targeted key logistics centers belonging to Wildberries—Russia’s largest e-commerce platform.

The escalating back-and-forth reflects a sharp widening of the war's operational scope, with both nations targeting critical logistical and economic infrastructure deep behind enemy lines.

Explosions tore through multiple Ukrainian regions shortly after midnight as air raid sirens sounded nationwide. Ukraine’s Air Force reported incoming salvos of low-cost attack drones combined with high-velocity ballistic missiles designed to overwhelm local air defense umbrella networks.

In and around Kyiv, falling debris and direct impacts sparked widespread fires, damaging residential high-rises and civilian infrastructure. Emergency responders pulled survivors from heavily damaged apartment blocks while battling blazes across the capital. Local officials confirmed multiple civilian fatalities, including children, with search and rescue operations ongoing amid warnings of follow-up strikes.

Ukrainian officials pointed to mounting shortages of Western-supplied anti-ballistic interceptors, such as Patriot systems, as a core reason behind the tragic casualties.
