Commuter Terror in Poland: 6 Injured After Public Bus Slams Into Warsaw West Underpass

WARSAW, POLAND — A chaotic Sunday evening commute turned into a scene of terror in Poland's capital after a public transit bus careened out of control, rammed several vehicles, and ultimately wedged itself into a pedestrian underpass near the busy Warsaw West (Warszawa Zachodnia) railway station. The violent crash left six people injured and triggered a massive emergency response during peak travel hours.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 PM on Monday, July 6, 2026 local time at the Zesłańców Syberyjskich Roundabout, a major transit junction adjacent to the station.

According to municipal transit logs and eyewitness accounts, the city bus on route 186 initially collided heavily with a passing tram after the driver lost control at the intersection. Instead of stopping, the heavy vehicle continued onto the roundabout, ramming into a line of cars and damaging multiple vehicles in its path. The destructive chain reaction only ended when the bus careened off the roadway and drove down into the entrance of a concrete pedestrian underpass, tightly wedging its front end inside.

"The bus rammed several cars and only stopped when it entered the underpass. It was a terrifying sight for commuters who were just trying to get home."— Local Emergency Responder

The Warsaw Police Headquarters and municipal medical teams rushed to the roundabout following frantic 112 emergency calls. First responders immediately flooded the area, cordoning off the busy junction to treat dazed passengers and drivers.

Out of the passengers and motorists involved, police confirmed that six people sustained injuries from the initial impacts and sudden deceleration. Paramedics treated most victims at the scene for cuts, bruises, and shock, while one individual required hospitalization for further specialized medical treatment.

While the visual aftermath suggested a medical emergency or reckless driving, preliminary investigations by the Warsaw Police indicate a technical issue. Initial findings point toward a sudden and catastrophic steering system failure that stripped the driver of his ability to maneuver the vehicle.

Authorities also quickly ruled out intoxication. Breathalyzer and preliminary on-site narcotics tests confirmed that the bus driver was completely sober and tested negative for illegal substances at the time of the crash.

Traffic around the Warszawa Zachodnia station remained heavily disrupted late into Sunday night as heavy tow equipment was brought in to extract the wedged transit bus from the underpass.
