KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA — A chaotic scene unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and crashed directly through the glass doors of the Emergency Department at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ).
The unusual accident shattered the quiet of the medical facility, leaving shattered glass strewn across the entrance and sparking an immediate police investigation.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor, confirmed that a 28-year-old male was riding a Yamaha Nouvo LC motorcycle from the direction of Jalan Sultan Mahmud toward the hospital's designated Emergency Zone.
Upon entering the hospital premises, the motorcycle suddenly veered out of control and careened straight into the glass doors of the department's Green Zone, which typically handles non-critical triage cases. The impact shattered the front entry doors, leaving the motorcycle lying on its side amidst a pile of broken glass.
While the crash caused significant cosmetic and structural damage to the hospital entrance, the rider miraculously escaped severe harm, sustaining only minor injuries to both his right and left hands. Hospital staff immediately moved the man into the emergency room to treat his wounds.
However, the medical intervention quickly turned into a criminal inquiry. A subsequent urine screening test administered by the authorities revealed that the 28-year-old suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.
Further background checks conducted by the traffic police uncovered multiple irregularities. Investigators discovered that the Yamaha motorcycle involved in the crash did not belong to the rider, but was registered to his biological brother. Furthermore, the vehicle's road tax had been expired since April 22, 2025.
The suspect remains confined to a hospital ward under police watch while receiving treatment for his hand lacerations. Police are continuing their investigation into the status of the suspect's driving credentials and employment history. The case is currently being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, which mandates that drivers must not neglect proper control over a moving vehicle's actions.
