GAZA CITY — A highly volatile Nakba Day took a catastrophic turn when an Israeli airstrike hit a residential neighborhood in Gaza, killing at least seven people. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the operation was a surgically targeted strike aimed at a high-ranking Hamas operative, but the heavy civilian toll has immediately ignited widespread fury and fueled an already tense regional standoff.

The deadly strike coincided with annual Nakba Day demonstrations, a deeply symbolic day of mourning when Palestinians commemorate the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people during the 1948 war.

According to witnesses and local emergency services, the blast occurred in the early afternoon, completely leveling a multi-story residential building and severely damaging surrounding structures.
